UPCOMING EVENTS:

April 18th-20th 2012: Tour of Permaculture Hotspots in Taranaki. Click here for details.

Naumai, welcome.
We are Kama Burwell and Peter Heard, a husband and wife partnership, based from our farm in Taranaki, Aotearoa New Zealand.

In the 1880's, Kama's great grandfather Albert Burwell arrived in Taranaki from England and purchased a forested block from the Queen of England. Like all the european immigrant farmers of his era, he set to burning the forest and converted it to pastoral farmland for grazing sheep and dairy cows.   In a few short decades, the lush rich forests of the Taranaki region were burnt and transformed into pasture, feeding the successful dairy export industry in the region.

For the last decade or so, Kama has been exploring what sustainable farming in Taranaki and Aotearoa NZ might be.  We are developing our corner of the family farm using the principles of terraquaculture and permaculture. We aim to demonstrate that terraquaculture farming is a viable option for providing family farming livelihoods and creating a beautiful landscape that is drought-proof and highly productive with healthy waterways - streams and rivers that we can safely swim in and gather food from.
